Fishing Report! Friday February 16, 2024

Recent offshore action had been extremely dependent on weather recently. Anglers have been able to get out during short weather windows but have done very well considering! A few wahoo reported last week from roughly 85 mi. Big African Pompano were reported in about 200′ of water as well. Red grouper have now been limited to the 20 fathom range but have still been showing very well within that depth. This is the time of year when the nearshore wreck fishing starts to get goooood!!! Big abmerjacks and mangrove snappers. Permit should start showing well here very soon and the cobia have been scattered. There have still been some tripletail reports flowing in, again mostly during the calmer days. Pompano in the passes and scattered on the flats along with sheepshead on most structure have been non stop. Inshore flats fishing is really starting to heat up with a ton of trout this past week and several decent snook reported in the past couple days. Small redfish have been scattered throughout the bay also. Get out and GO FISHING!!

Fishing Report! Tuesday, January 30, 2024

Wintertime fishing is in full swing! Some inconsistent weather has made it difficult to get offshore but there have been a few weather windows making it possible. Anglers getting out to the 130-140′ range of water are seeing some very nice red grouper and yellowtail snapper as well as some large mangrove snapper. If theyve been able to get out a bit further to the 180′-200′ range they are seeing massive African pompano and blackfin tuna as well. Amberjacks are still lurking the nearshore wrecks along with a few smaller cobia. The tripletail have been supersized this season! Some of these coming from 40-50′ of water. Calm days are producing some big ones up to 34″. Pompano have swarmed the passes these past couple weeks with a few nice permit mixed in. Live shrimp are working best. Sheepshead are still extremely prominent in the bay and on most structure..ie. rocks, oyster beds and dock pilings but you may see some on the flats as well. The trout bite also remains strong on the flats with primarily soft plastics. We have seen many smaller reds these past few days on the flats primarily in north Saraota bay. Night fishing has been fantastic lately with anglers catching some jack crevalle and snook in the lights. Tarpon season will be upon us before we know it, now is the time to start getting prepared! We’ve got everything you need to catch the king. Stay tuned for info on upcoming seminars this spring!!

Fishing Report!! Friday December, 29th 2023

Well, it has been a minute!! First off.. a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone. Fishing has been phenomenal this past month in between the windy/weather days. Offshore action right now is looking great with wahoo out past 50mi. Amberjacks on the nearshore ledges along with a fantastic hogfish showing. We have XL mangrove snappers reported from as far north as Anna Maria Island all the way down to Ft Myers. There are plenty of cobia still around in scattered depths at the moment. The tripletail reports have been flowing in directly following that blow this past week and Ive been seeing some larger models showing in the 24-26″ range. Pompano bite is super hot this week with some smaller permit mixed in as well. Most of those pompano reports are coming from the passes and beach with a few scattered in the bay. Lots of redfish still around in the bay!! Shallow soft plastics have been the ticket for reds preferably in a pearl or a golden bream or red/watermelon glitter color on an 1/8-1/4oz jighead. This is a great time of year for wading. Certain spots are still holding some very nice trout also. Sheepshead for the taking!!! Check any and all dock pilings, oyster beds and structure. Sheepshead have been loaded up in the bay. Several mentions of big schools of jack crevalle pushing up into Phillippi Creek this week…most of the big snook have already made there way into the back though.

Winter Kayaking in South Florida’s Hidden Oasis

As winter blankets much of the northern hemisphere in a frosty embrace, kayaking enthusiasts in South Florida are gearing up for a unique and exhilarating experience on the water. While the rest of the country may be bundling up and retreating indoors, adventurous paddlers are embracing the mild winter temperatures and exploring the hidden gems that make winter kayaking in South Florida a one-of-a-kind adventure.

Winter Kayaking

Escape the Cold:

South Florida’s winter is a stark contrast to the icy temperatures gripping other parts of the United States. With average temperatures hovering in the comfortable 60s and 70s, the region offers a haven for kayakers seeking an escape from the winter chill. Imagine gliding through calm waters under the warm sun, surrounded by lush greenery and abundant wildlife – a perfect antidote to the winter blues.

Diverse Ecosystems:

South Florida boasts a rich and diverse ecosystem that comes to life during the winter months. Kayakers have the opportunity to explore a variety of habitats, from mangrove-lined estuaries and serene freshwater lakes to winding rivers and coastal inlets. Each waterway presents a unique experience, showcasing the region’s biodiversity and providing paddlers with a front-row seat to observe marine life, including manatees, dolphins, and a plethora of bird species.

Wildlife Encounters:

Winter kayaking in South Florida offers unparalleled opportunities for wildlife encounters. As the temperatures drop elsewhere, many species migrate to the warmer waters of the region, creating a haven for nature enthusiasts. Paddlers may be greeted by the gentle gliding of manatees, the playful antics of dolphins, and the vibrant plumage of wading birds. It’s not uncommon to witness a spectacle of nature while peacefully navigating the waterways.

Serene Winter Landscapes:

The winter season transforms South Florida’s landscapes into serene and tranquil settings. The absence of summer’s humidity allows for clear skies and crisp air, enhancing the overall paddling experience. Kayakers can enjoy unobstructed views of the surrounding scenery, whether it’s the sun setting over the horizon, casting a warm glow on the water, or the stillness of a misty morning paddle through a quiet estuary.

Hidden Gems and Secluded Spots:

Paddlers can venture off the beaten path, exploring tucked-away coves, mangrove tunnels, and peaceful lagoons. The tranquility of these lesser-known areas provides an intimate connection with nature and allows kayakers to savor the beauty of South Florida away from the crowds.

For those seeking a winter kayaking experience like no other, South Florida beckons with its mild temperatures, diverse ecosystems, abundant wildlife, and hidden oases waiting to be discovered. Whether you’re a seasoned paddler or a novice adventurer, the region offers a unique opportunity to trade in the winter coat for a paddle and embrace the beauty of nature in its winter glory. So, grab your kayak, soak in the sunshine, and embark on a winter kayaking adventure in South Florida’s hidden oasis. And if you don’t own one, now is the perfect time to buy or gift one, our experts will help you pick out the perfect one.

Fishing Report-Friday February 28, 2025

Signs of spring are near!! Despite some inconsistent weather these past few weeks, things are starting to shape up nicely both offshore and in. African pompanos are being caught in 100+ feet of water using both live and dead baits on big structures such as D reefs, springs and wrecks. The mangrove snapper bite has been fantastic along with sheepshead, hogfish, porgies, cobia and pompano. There are also still plenty of nice tripletail cruising the crab lines. Always check any floating debris this time of year as they can easily hold a tripletail. Bigger bait is starting to show up which is a nice sign of spring, as well as some decent snook starting to move out. Inshore trout and redfish bite has been phenominal with a lot of overslot trout being reported this week specifically. Redfish reports from the north and south bay have been nonstop with anglers catching them on soft plastics as well as live bait. Now is the time to book if you are interested in tarpon charters for this spring/summer. They’ll be here before we know it!! Let us know if you are interested and we can help get you in touch with a guide.

Fishing Report! Friday January 24, 2025

High winds and cold temps have been keeping people much closer to shore than normal these past few weeks. Offshore reports are scattered in between tough conditions, but nearshore fishing within 15 miles has been very productive when able to get out. Hogfish reports have been strong, mainly nearshore ledges on live shrimp or shrimp rigged on a hogball. Sheepshead and redfish have been all over nearshore structure in about 40′ these past couple weeks as well. A few mentions of tripletail so far with some absolute giants in the mix. Inshore bite has really been great despite the wind and cold. Live shrimp or soft plastics working SLOW on the bottom is the ticket for the cold. Thumpershrimp 3″ gold glitter or rootbeer colors are working great as well as the Vudu shrimp and golden bream lil jons. Think shrimpy patterns! There have been several pompano reports recently on the flats, as well as trout and some nice redfish primarily around docks and rocks. We have live shrimp as well as a full selection of frozen baits. Stop in and see us!
