Red tide has been present in our area but is very patchy. There are still plenty of spots holding clean water and have been producing great numbers of snook, redfish and trout!! Bait has been a little bit tougher to locate but is staying alive for most of our guides that have been fishing every day. We are still getting live shrimp every day and still highly recommend using live bait. Phillippi Creek has been very productive these past few weeks for large snook and juvenile tarpon. Soft plastics and swim baits have been the artificial baits of choice. Live mullet or ladyfish can be absolutely DEADLY for tarpon. The key for those baits is keeping them in good condition so they can be presented in the most natural way. Big fish don’t get that big from being dumb!! Sometimes the biggest snook want a dead bait that is sitting on the bottom. Have patience for those fish. Nearshore gulf of Mexico has been producing some really nice mangrove snappers and we have heard some scattered reports of permit, amberjack and cobia as well. Right now it is very important to get out, look around, maybe try an area that you haven’t tried before. Find the cleaner pockets of water and bait….and you will find hungry fish!! We are receiving tackle shipments every day and constantly stocking new items as well. Slayer lures, Z-Man fishing, Yozuri and First light jigs to name of few of the best!! As always, please don’t hesitate if you have questions.. that’s why we are here. Tight Lines!!
