Spring is here!! And so is the bait. Offshore fishing has been a bit tough with high winds and rough seas the past couple weeks but we have still had plenty of reports. African pompano in about 150-180′ of water. Red snapper, although not in season, have been plentiful! Plenty of red grouper to bend the rods as well. Live or frozen baits will work for all the above. King Mackerel have been reported pretty consistently this week! Some of descent size. We are hearing about a ton of spanish mackerel off of the beaches and in the bay as well. King spoons or ‘Johnson” silver minnow spoons work well for the king and spanish mackerel if you are unable to attain bait. Snook have definitely started to push out of the bay and passes and move down the beaches. Still hearing of some good sized tripletail around also. Sheepshead and pompano are still abundant in the passes and around rocks and dock pilings. They are still wanting live shrimp or sand fleas if you’re able to find them! We get live shrimp every day at the shop and they go for about 5$ per dozen. We also stock plenty of frozen bait and get deliveries weekly. Inshore action remains hot on the flats!! Redfish are devouring artificial bait! Primarily gold bream, red glitter, or watermelon glitter for those fish on the grass flats. Gold spoons work well also, typically 1/4 to 1/2 ounce is my go to size. There have been some LARGE sized snook moving out onto the flats so be prepared!! They are still catch and release along with the redfish. Check local regulations for sea trout as those have recently changed. As always, please let us know if you have questions, we are here to help!!
