The Tarpon migration is in full swing!!! The lack of rain is making it tough to find crabs but try to dip them on the outgoing tides if you are able. Those tarpon are still wanting that bait, although threadfins can work as well. Large schools have been spotted up and down the beaches as well as in the passes. Sabiki rigs can be used for threadfins as well as cast nets. Bites have been better in the early mornings and evenings. American Red Snapper season will open on June 4th! Usually targeting these fish at around 30 mi can be productive. Plenty of mangrove snapper and amberjack out there to bend the rods as well!! We have seen some massive inshore snook lately!! It is not uncommon to see mostly 30″+ snook at this time. Pilchards, threadfins and shrimp work well. Good amounts of snook being caught on the beaches as well. Large speckled trout and redfish bite remains strong also. We have also seen 80lb wahoo caught in 100′ of water off of Venice Jetty in the past couple weeks. Keep your eyes open for cobia out there! Crabs or pinfish are the chosen bait for the cobia if you can get them…. artificials like eels or crabs may be effective. We carry several made by Savage Gear at the shop.
